Salma Hindy is a graduate of Stand Up Comedy from Second City Toronto. With her fast rise to comedy, Salma Hindy has opened for Ken Jeong and Maz Jobrani. Salma has been featured on the CBC, Globe and Mail, CityNews and in various magazines and podcasts. Salma finished 2nd place in the 2018 Toronto Comedy Brawl competition with over 400 comedians. She was nominated for Notable Life Awards “Stand Up Comedian” and Muslim Awards for Excellence (MAX)’s “Artist of the Year”. Salma performed a 16 city Comedy Tour across the UK and Australia. She has performed at CBC’s Accent on Toronto and will be performing at the CBC Halifax Comedy Festival in 2020. She gave a Tedx talk earlier this year about her emotional journey in comedy titled “Why People Pleasing is Hurting You.” Salma is the star of her own name-sake documentary “Salma” as she explores different facets of her identity as a stand-up comic and a biomedical engineer – two very niche and male-dominated industries. This documentary was featured at Toronto Shorts Film Festival, Big Apple Film Festival, Austin Revolution Film Festival, Burbank International Film Festival, and Women’s International Film Festival. Check out her Upcoming Events section to see her live!
Her comedy flavours range from politics to her experiences as the child of immigrant parents. The only terrorism Salma partakes in is shooting down stereotypes on stage.
